Today, All Hallows Eve, is the one day of the year we tend to turn our attention to things that go bump in the night more than any other day. I took in a very popular local event put on by OMA (Okotoks Museum and Archives). It runs for a few nights running up to Halloween each year. This is one of the must do events that OMA puts on each year along with the Cemetery Tour and Heritage Walking Tour. Make sure you put it on your list for next Halloween.
The tour takes about an hour and leaves on the half hour between 6:30 and 9:00 pm the three evenings building up to Halloween. This tour sells out every year so make sure you get your tickets in plenty of time. We won't give away all of the ghostly tales but here are some photos from the Walk.
The empty streets of Downtown Okotoks set the perfect eerie tone for our Ghost Walk tour.
Our first stop is the Okotoks Station where several ghosts are said to make their home.
One of the local heritage homes said to have a Haunter.
Several spirits at Ardiel House were kind enough to say hello.
A recent visit from a local Medium confirms three spirits living in the house, a man, a woman and a little girl.
The present owners have embraced these spirits and their sense of Halloween fun.
Under eerie lamplight our tour guide, Cathy Coutts, tells us about the spirits that haunt the site of the old Lumber Mill and the river pathways where many unfortunate water deaths occurred in the early 1900's.
There was lots of hand holding amongst the tour takers after hearing these spooky tales.
Hope you enjoyed our photo essay, have a safe and Happy Halloween.
