2013 is a big year for bicycle enthusiasts at Foothills Realty as it marks the first year for the annual Tour of Alberta, Canada’s Pro Cycling Festival.
The sport of cycling is growing and now it’s coming to Alberta, thanks to Albertan Alex Stieda, the first North American cyclist to wear the yellow leader’s jersey at the Tour de France. Through his vision, the 2013 Tour of Alberta will be the first major international professional stage race for Canada, and we’re so excited it’s decided to route it’s way through our scenic community of Okotoks.
The event is scheduled for September 3 - 8, 2013. It will start in Edmonton heading south toward the Okotoks region.
Stage 5, the final stage routes from Okotoks to Downtown Calgary on September 8th. The start location is the Seaman Stadium in Okotoks, where riders will ride 132 kilometres to the final finish point of Centre Street and 4th Avenue in Calgary's downtown core.
The Town of Okotoks has many special events planned to cheer on the riders and celebrate a fantastic event in a fantastic community. It’s not every day an international event like this comes to town, so be sure to come out and enjoy the festivities.
Here’s a short clip featuring Okotoks’ very own Shane Olson, Economic Development Team Leader.
